Have you heard of a Buy Nothing week or month?

no

We have never tried a buy-nothing week or month, but it is widespread for people struggling with budgeting. Is it a good idea? We would prefer you to have a written budget so you can “buy” any week. With that said, we could benefit from some of their ideas:

  • Delayed gratification
  • Spending gift card money
  • Having essential supplies and staple foods on hand
  • Searching for used goods before buying new

From our friends Matt and Joel at How to Money:

Join the millions of people around the world who have pledged to buy less, share more, and reduce waste via the Buy Nothing Project.

You can find a local group via facebook search (or global list here), and for all you non-facebookers there are mobile apps (iOS | Android) to connect with peeps in your area.

Before you buy anything new, throw out a request to your community to see if anyone has a spare one laying around. Money saved is better than money earned.
